Archived US Maps: Compare National Performance and Outcome Measures Across States
The US state maps below compare each state’s performance to the national average on National Performance Measures (NPMs) and National Outcome Measures (NOMs) from the
National Survey of Children's Health (NSCH) and other surveys. The significance of differences between state and national prevalence was assessed using a nested t-test at p<0.05. Statistical tests for state-by-state comparisons require additional analysis.

Data Alert! In 2024, the Maternal and Child Health Bureau and the Census Bureau revised imputation and weighting by race and ethnicity for the NSCH. The updated weights have not been applied to any of the estimates contained in these archived US maps. The estimates from these maps are not comparable to estimates produced using datasets with the updated weights available on the Census Bureau’s website. These estimates should also not be directly compared with estimates on the DRC’s NSCH data query page which have been updated with new weights (2012-2022 combined, 2022 and forward).

Note: Maps for the following measures are not available: (1) NPM 6: Developmental screening -
estimates for more than 50% of states have a 95% confidence interval width exceeding 20 percentage points or 1.2
times the estimate and may not be reliable, and (2) NOM 21: Uninsured - The U.S. Census Bureau did not release
standard 1-year estimates due to the COVID-19 pandemic. https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs/technical-documentation/user-notes/2021-02.htm
Note: Maps for the following measures are not available because estimates for more than 50% of

Note: Due to changes in the NSCH’s mode of data collection and sampling frame, as well as
adjustments to item wording where necessary, it is not possible to compare estimates from the redesigned survey to
those from previous iterations of the NSCH or NS-CSHCN conducted prior to 2016.
