Guide to NSCH Changes Across Survey Years

The documents below provide information on changes made to the survey administration and measure-specific changes made since the NSCH was redesigned in 2016.

Data Alert! In 2024, the Maternal and Child Health Bureau and the Census Bureau revised imputation and weighting by race and ethnicity for the NSCH. The updated weights have been applied to the 2022 and 2021-2022 NSCH data query findings and DRC constructed datasets, but have not been applied to the 2016-2021 NSCH data query and DRC datasets. Due to the imputation and weighting changes, the estimates on the DRC archived interactive data query (2016-2021) are not comparable to estimates produced using datasets with the updated weights available on the U.S. Census Bureau’s website. Estimates with new weights for the DRC indicators and measures displayed on the archived data query for the 2016-2021 NSCH can be created by applying the codes available in the DRC codebooks to the updated public use files provided on the U.S. Census Bureau’s website. Please read the weighting revisions technical document for more information.
